To Know About Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin that is also known as the sunshine vitamin. It is most generally obtained from the sun and from some few different foods. A regular 10-15 minutes of exposure to sunlight can produce enough vitamins for the day. Also there are very few foods that contained vitamin D in it, hence it is generally better for one to expose him to sun rather than depend on foods. There are various health benefits that can be obtained from this vitamin. The various benefits include promotion of calcium absorption for healthy bones and in the prevention of cancers. It also helps in blood pressure regulation, diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis in the old and rickets in children as well as in Osteoporosis.

Vitamins are something that when taken more than needed can cause various side-effects. Even it is true for vitamin D. when vitamin D is produced in excess then it is found to have various side-effects such as symptoms of nausea, vomiting, low appetite, constipation, weight loss and low energy levels. But one thing that is found out is that this toxicity is not produced as by exposure to sunlight as the body has the capacity to control the vitamin D production. This is generally the case when supplements of vitamin D are taken.

It protects against various cancers such as that of the colon. Vitamin D is also seen to protect from breast and prostate cancer and even in cases such as osteoporosis. Thus keeping these in mind it is always better to expose oneself in sunlight rather than taking supplements.
